Conflict Coaching

Mishandled conflict can derail promising careers and damage important relationships.  While some conflict is inevitable, working with a coach can help you to manage conflict successfully.

In my practice I primarily work with the CINERGY model of conflict coaching. I work with you to understand the dynamics of the conflict situation, the trigger points, and the emotional and power dynamics.  Conflict situations will generally impact negatively on the identities, values and needs of those involved. This approach helps you to discover new perspectives and choices, and to identify and evaluate the options and the help and support you need to move forward. This may involve developing your skills, changing behaviours that might inadvertently undermine you, and making use of any underutilised resources that you may not even be aware of.  It is not about imposing solutions or offering "expert" advice on how to live your life.

Most clients begin conflict coaching with a specific dispute in mind.  In some cases the focus is on a broader conflict competency development, particularly in the context of career development or where conflict management has been identified as a leadership or performance weakness. This is a process of enquiry, evaluating the usefulness of certain behaviours, changing behaviours, reframing habitual thoughts, working with self compassion and mindfulness and more. I am trained in and prefer simple helping approaches including Egan's coaching model and Hill's coaching skills model.
